Montessori Preschool
The Stables Montessori Preschool, on the corner of Sparks Road and Sutherlands Road, is a beautiful purpose-built kindergarten and preschool situated in Halswell. Opened in 2024, Sparks Road is a privately owned early childhood education centre, operating under the provisions of the Ministry of Education Regulations (2008). Our team of early childhood education teachers aim to provide high-quality Montessori education, while building relationships with our children and families in a safe and nurturing environment.
At Stables Montessori Preschools, we provide high-quality care and Montessori education for children aged birth to six years old. Our thoughtfully designed learning environments are tailored to support each child’s unique stage of development, fostering independence, confidence, and a love for learning.
Founded by Ross Moffatt and Danielle Fisher, The Stables Montessori Preschool was established to bring authentic Montessori preschool education to the Halswell and surrounding areas such as Wigram, Hornby and Canshmere. As one of Christchurch’s trusted preschools and childcare centres, we are proud to offer a nurturing and enriching start for every child.
Montessori Philosophy
We believe that the first six years of a child’s life are fundamental to their future development. The experiences that take place at The Stables Montessori will lay solid foundations and prepare children for lifelong learning.
Children’s individual uniqueness is celebrated meaning children are respected, happy and develop a strong sense of belonging.
Friendly, motivated, and passionate teachers provide a holistic approach to teaching and learning by weaving Te Whāriki and The Montessori Method creating a specially prepared environment where children have the freedom to make choices, direct their own learning and make new discoveries.
Family and community are integral to our programme, we welcome input from parents and caregivers and value the contribution they make.
All these aspects combined, alongside our thoughtfully planned school readiness curriculum ensures children are set up with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the next step of their journey.

Helpful Information
Fees
Our fees are based on the number of days and hours your child attends, as well as any additional activities. Our fee structure reflects the quality of our curriculum and includes delicious, nutritious meals. For detailed information, please reach out to our friendly Centre Manager.
20 Hour Subsidy
If your child is 3 or older, they’re eligible for 20 hours ECE care
each week, up to 6 hours per day. We receive this funding directly from the Ministry of Education, so you won’t need to pay for these hours. However, any additional costs beyond this will need to be covered by you.
Family Boost
Family Boost tax refunds are provided by the IRD directly to eligible parents, based on income. To claim this refund, you’ll need to keep and submit paid invoices to the IRD.
WINZ Childcare Subsidy
You might be eligible for a WINZ subsidy, which provides assistance based on your individual circumstances. To find out more, please contact WINZ directly.
